We’ve known that Nigel Harman, Victoria Elliott and Ashley Knight will play I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical’s troupe of judges for some time. But, as if from behind sliding doors surrounded by over the top pyrotechnics, the first image of the trio has been released.
We’ve previously caught glimpses of the performers playing Jordy, Simon and Louis – who may or may not have been based on three of the judges who have appeared on the ITV talent show that inspired the musical – in teaser videos, but this new image is the first time audiences have been able to see the trio in all their Saturday night audience-pleasing glory.
Elliott, who has recently been seen in BBC comedy Hebburn and was part of the show’s workshop process, said of the Harry Hill and Steve Brown-penned production: “It’s been very exciting to see it grow into the kick-ass comedy rock monster it has become. Jordy is a brilliant character, I love her. All little girls in the North East grow up longing to become an internationally renowned, pampered pop diva, it seems my time has finally come because I’m worth it.”
Knight added of his own character: “Obviously the actual Louis is a creation all of his own and he seems to have got more and more extrovert and fun of late. The show is going to be great fun and Harry and Steve have given us a full banquet of observations to play with… good times.”
I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical, written by TV comedian Hill and co-produced by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, begins performances at the London Palladium next month. Following one talent show hopeful on her journey through the star-making competition it lovingly pokes fun at the TV phenomenon using 19 songs, a host of unusual contestants and a talking dog.
