Into The Hoods, the hit street dance show which enjoyed a West End run last year, is to return to London for a Christmas season at the Southbank Centre.
The show, which plays the Queen Elizabeth Hall from 16 December to 10 January, puts a witty spin on Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into The Woods. An urban fairytale, it tells the story of two runaway kids who journey to the Ruff Endz estate and meet characters including aspiring singer Lil Red, rapper Rap-en-Zel and DJ Spinderella. Gorillaz, Basement Jaxx, Stevie Wonder and Kanye West are among the contemporary artists whose music is featured in the show.
Into The Hoods is produced by street dance company ZooNation and choreographed by Kate Prince, whose work on the show earned her a Laurence Olivier Award nomination earlier this year.
The show began life as part of hip hop festival Breakin’ Convention at Sadler’s Wells in 2005, before enjoying two years at the Edinburgh Festival and a West End run at the Novello theatre last summer, where Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson made a guest appearance.
