Helen Hobson will return to hit musical Mamma Mia! to play Donna Sheridan later this year, following today’s news that the show’s current Donna, Sally Ann Triplett, is set to star in the latest production by the Greek-set musical’s producer Judy Craymer, Viva Forever!.
Hobson returns to play Sheridan, who finds herself face to face with her daughter’s three potential fathers, following a three year stint in the role from 2004.
The actress has also starred opposite Michael Ball in Stephen Sondheim’s Passion and Cliff Richard in Heathcliff The Musical, and has appeared in other West End productions including Blood Brothers and Aspects Of Love.
Hobson will join the cast of the ABBA-inspired musical from 24 September, shortly after the production moves from its current home at the Prince of Wales theatre to the Novello theatre on 6 September. She will be joined by current company members Joanna Monro, Kim Ismay, Gary Milner, Neil Roberts, James Gaddas, Charlotte Wakefield, Andreas Gyllander, Abiola Ogunbiyi, Tasha Taylor Johnson, Steven Oliver and Liam Doyle.
Following Mamma Mia!’s departure from the Prince of Wales theatre later this year, the venue will house controversial musical The Book Of Mormon when it starts previews next February.
