Henry VIII and the Horrible Histories gang will head off on holiday at the end of this week when they embark on a tour of the Middle East.
Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain will take its tales of historical murder and mayhem to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Shajah before returning to its current West End home in the autumn, resuming performances at the Garrick theatre from 27 October.
Based on Terry Deary’s much loved series of books, the family show is brought to the stage by the Birmingham Stage Company, which has been entertaining children and adults alike for over a decade with its productions about popular personalities from the past.
Now the longest running children’s show in the history of the West End, the return of Barmy Britain will see Neal Foster, who also co-wrote and directed the show, and Alison Fitzjohn take to the stage once again to portray a host of famous characters including Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Guy Fawkes and Florence Nightingale.
Running into January next year, Barmy Britain will play alongside Busted star James Bourne’s 1970s-set musical Loserville, which opens at the Garrick theatre on 17 October following a successful regional run.
In the meantime, the history-packed family show is playing alongside long-runner Chicago until 1 September, when the fishnet-filled musical ends its run in the West End.
