The Comedy theatre is to host the world premiere of new musical Too Close To The Sun, which runs for a limited eight week season in the West End this summer.
Opening on 24 July, following previews from 16 July, Too Close To The Sun offers a fictional account of the final year of Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway’s life. As Hemingway ages, those around him seek to benefit; his young secretary aims to become wife number five and inherit his estate, while old school friend Rex tries desperately to secure the film rights to the notorious writer’s life story.
The new show features music and lyrics by John Robinson, whose work was last seen in London when Behind The Iron Mask, a musical reinterpretation of the story of The Man In The Iron Mask, was staged at the Duchess theatre in 2005.
News about Too Close To The Sun’s cast and creative team is yet to be announced.
The Comedy theatre currently hosts the Laurence Olivier Award-nominated production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard, which is due to close on 30 May.
No show has been announced to fill the period between Sunset Boulevard’s closure and the premiere of Too Close To The Sun.
