British Golden Globe-winner Sally Hawkins will star alongside Rafe Spall in Nick Payne’s new drama Constellations at the Royal Court next year.
The actress, who was thrust into the limelight following her award-winning performance in Mike Leigh’s Happy-Go-Lucky, is better known for her work on screen than on stage. Her film appearances include Made In Dagenham, An Education and Never Let Me Go, while her TV credits include Tipping The Velvet, Fingersmith and Persuasion.
Constellations marks her return to the Royal Court, where she previously appeared opposite Jerome Flynn, Robert Glenister and Daniel Mays in Jez Butterworth’s The Winterling in 2006. Her other theatrical appearances include Romeo And Juliet, The Cherry Orchard and, most recently, Roundhouse Theatre Company’s production of Mrs Warren’s Profession in 2010.
Payne’s latest piece for the Royal Court, which has previously staged his Wanderlust, is an explosive play about free will and friendship, quantum multiverse theory, love and honey. It is staged in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs as part of the Royal Court’s Jerwood New Playwrights programme.
