Katy Stephens will star in Jessica Swale’s critically acclaimed drama Thomas Tallis alongside its original cast when it returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse later this month following its hit 2014 run.
The Adele Thomas-directed biopic of the celebrated English composer, which was specially commissioned for Shakespeare’s Globe’s indoor theatre, will return from 22 October.
Taking audiences through the religious and political shifts of four Tudor monarchies, the history drama recounts the life and work of the great Tallis with live music played by members of the acclaimed musical ensemble The Sixteen.
Acclaimed RSC actor Stephens, who can currently be seen on the Globe stage leading The Oresteia, will be joined in the cast by her fellow The Oresteia co-star Brendan O’Hea, Shakespeare’s Globe regular Simon Harrison (As You Like It, The Changeling, The Comedy Of Errors) and Globe Young Players company member Guy Amos.
Swale is becoming a regular name on the iconic venue’s bill, with past plays for Shakespeare’s Globe including this summer’s world premiere of Nell Gwynn and 2013’s Blue Stockings.
Thomas Tallis joins an autumn/winter season at the candle-lit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse that also includes a new production of Orpheus created in collaboration with The Royal Opera, Simon Armitage’s The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead, and productions of Pericles, The Winter’s Tale and The Tempest.
