Iain Glen and Charlotte Emmerson are to star in Mike Poulton’s new adaptation of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya at The Print Room from 21 March to 28 April (press night 29 March).
Real-life partners Glen and Emmerson have previously appeared together on stage in productions including The Seagull in 2003 and Poulton’s adaptation of Schiller’s Wallenstein in Chichester in 2009.
Glen returns to the London stage following Ghosts at the Duchess theatre last year. His stage work also includes The Crucible for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Hedda Gabler at the Almeida theatre, The Blue Room at the Donmar Warehouse and A Streetcar Named Desire at the National Theatre. Also successful on screen, Glen has been seen in Spooks, The Diary Of Anne Frank, Downton Abbey and Game Of Thrones.
Emmerson’s work on the London stage includes The Postman Always Rings Twice in the West End, The Cherry Orchard, The Coast Of Utopia and Thérèse Raquin at the National Theatre and, most recently, Serenading Louie at the Donmar Warehouse.
They will be directed in Uncle Vanya by Lucy Bailey, the co-Artistic Director of West London’s The Print Room, who previously directed Emmerson in The Postman Always Rings Twice. Bailey’s work also includes several acclaimed productions for Shakespeare’s Globe and The Beggar’s Opera at the Regent’s Park Open Air theatre earlier this year.
