What’s it all about?
Theresa Ikoko’s Girls, a Talawa Theatre Company, Soho Theatre and HighTide co-production, tells the story of three best friends who have their world turned upside down when they are kidnapped from their hometown in Nigeria. The girls, Tisana, Ruhab and Haleema, have their own way of processing and attempting to cope with the extraordinary and harrowing circumstances they now find themselves in. The play explores love, sex, religion and a friendship that endures the most unimaginable test. When the rest of the world’s attention moves on, what happens to the girls left behind?

Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Yvette Boakye and Abiola Ogunbiyi give three of the year’s most searing stage performances. With moments of great humour and intense sadness, the trio add light and shade to Theresa Ikoko’s explosive text. Bringing to life three very different characters, their performances ring heartbreakingly true.
