East London is famous for its quirkiness, so it’s entirely fitting that theatre’s most loved bonkers theatre company Told By An Idiot will return to the Barbican this Christmas with Get Happy
The critically acclaimed theatre company’s first ever family show premiered at the Barbican in 2013 and will return to the venue from 17 to 30 December, once again bringing a festive dose of wild, mischievous fun to everyone aged four and older with the promise of brand new material for 2015.
Taking inspiration from everyone from Charlie Chaplin to Dr Seuss, Get Happy invites families to enter a world of artfully controlled chaos where you might just discover anything from the strangest egg sandwich ever to be created live on stage to a gorilla-loving opera singer.
Back in 2013, when the company made its first move into family theatre following its many acclaimed creations for older audiences including the Young Vic hit My Perfect Mind, co-Artistic Director Paul Hunter commented: “Whilst developing Get Happy with the involvement and feedback of young audiences, I have been constantly fascinated by the often random nature of their imaginations.
“Far from being bound by a search for meaning or desire to make connections, they will happily flip from one idea to the next. We’re thrilled that this fits with the desire for spontaneity and theatrical anarchy that is at the heart of all of Told By An Idiot’s work.”
Get Happy will play in the Barbican Pit with casting still to be confirmed.
