Additional casting has been announced for the Old Vic’s production of Gaslight. Joining Bond beauty Rosamund Pike and stage and screen veteran Kenneth Cranham will be Andrew Woodhall and Rowena Cooper.
Woodhall has most recently been seen in The Voysey Inheritance at the National, as Booth Voysey. He has also played Edmund in Peter Hall’s King Lear at the Old Vic, Oliver in As You Like It at the Wyndham’s and Cardinal Barberini in The Life of Galileo at the National. Woodhall has a strong connection with Peter Gill, who directs Gaslight; The Voysey Inheritance was also directed by Gill and his 1999 play Certain Young Men, which was seen at the Almeida, was written for Woodhall.
Cooper, who plays Elizabeth, is well-known for her television work, with regular roles in Down To Earth and Playing The Field for the BBC. Onstage, she has appeared in Birds Of Passage at the Hampstead, worked with Harold Pinter on Blithe Spirit at the National and with Trevor Nunn on the RSC’s Much Ado About Nothing.
Gaslight tells the story of a young woman who thinks she may be going out of her mind as she is psychologically dominated by her husband. When a detective arrives to question her about her husband’s behaviour, uncertainties arise about his true identity.
Prolific director and writer Peter Gill has directed more than 80 productions in the UK, Europe and North America, and was the founding director of Riverside Studios and the National Theatre Studio.
The production is designed by Hayden Griffin, with music by David Shrubsole and lighting by Harley TA Kemp.
