Sophia Kiely, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Kerry Ingram and Cleo de Demetriou, the four young actresses who originated the role of Matilda in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s hit West End production, made history this Sunday when they were named the youngest ever Olivier Award winners, sharing 2012’s coveted Best Actress in a Musical Award.
Worthington Cox, who at 10 years is the youngest of the quartet, described the record breaking achievement as “Pretty cool. Scary, but I think that’s pretty awesome.”
The award was not the only record broken by Matilda The Musical at the ceremony, with the show triumphing in seven categories, the most awards ever to be won by one production in Olivier Awards history.
