Emma Williams, Adam Levy and Lesli Margherita will join Matt Rawle in the cast of swashbuckling musical Zorro, which opens at the Garrick on 15 July.
Williams will take on the role of Luisa, the pure and beautiful object of Zorro’s affections. Her previous stage credits include Truly Scrumptious in the London Palladium’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Susan in Desperately Seeking Susan at the Novello, Fran Kubelik in Promises Promises at the Sheffield Crucible and Johanna in the recent production of Sweeney Todd at the Royal Festival Hall. She has also starred on screen in Steve Coogan’s film The Parole Officer. Williams hit the news in 2006 when she was contracted to share the role of Maria in The Sound Of Music with Connie Fisher, winner of the BBC talent search show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, but mutually decided with Andrew Lloyd Webber to pull out of the role.
Williams’ co-star Levy recently toured in Headlong’s production of Angels In America. He has also appeared in the RSC’s Troilus And Cressida in Stratford, The Winter’s Tale at the Watermill, and Nick Hytner’s production of Henry V at the National Theatre.
Zorro will see Margherita make her London stage debut as Inez. An American actress, she has appeared on television shows such as Fame LA, Charmed and NYPD Blue. Her stateside stage credits include Damn Yankees and Kiss Me Kate.
In total the production will include a cast of 27, also featuring Nick Cavaliere, Jonathan Newth and some of the world’s leading flamenco dancers, choreographed by Rafael Amargo, one of the most famous dancers in his field.
Direction comes from Christopher Renshaw, who leads a creative team including musical arranger John Cameron, famous for his work on musical Les Misérables, stage designer Tom Piper and author Stephen Clark who won a Laurence Olivier Award in 1997 for his lyrics in Martin Guerre.
