Further casting has been announced for Simon Stephens’ new version of Anton Chekhov’s classic play, The Seagull, at the Lyric Hammersmith.
Adelayo Adedayo (Cuttin’ It, Young Vic/Royal Court) will star as flourishing artist Nina, opposite Brian Vernel (Future Conditional, Old Vic; Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as writer Konstantin, joining the previously announced Lesley Sharp (Uncle Vanya, National Theatre) who will portray Irina Arkadina.
Michele Austin (Medea, Almeida) will play Pauline, Paul Higgins (Line Of Duty) will play Hugo Dorn, Cherrelle Skeete (Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, West End) will play Marcia, and Nicolas Tennant (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, West End) will play Peter Sorin.
Chekhov’s celebrated masterpiece is given vibrant new life in this dynamic new version by Olivier Award-winning playwright Stephens, switching effortlessly between the ridiculous and the profound as The Seagull forensically examines the transcendence and destructiveness of love. The burning need to create Art, and how harshly that need can be crushed, permeates the play.
The Seagull plays at the Lyric Hammersmith from Tuesday 3 October – Saturday 4 November.
