Shakespeare’s Globe has announced full casting for John Milton’s Comus – A Masque In Honour Of Chastity. The first production in Emma Rice’s inaugural winter season in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Milton’s epic masque tells of an unnamed heroine lost in the woods who encounters Comus, God of Revelry.
The role of Comus, God of Revelry, will be played by Danny Lee Wynter. Danny’s previous work for Shakespeare’s Globe includes King Lear, Henry IV Parts I & II, The Frontline and Bedlam.
Emma Curtis will play The Lady. Emma’s recent theatre includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Liverpool Everyman).
Rob Callender and Theo Cowan will play The Lady’s brothers. Rob (The Elder Brother), recently starred in Another Country at Trafalgar Studios. His screen credits include Sherlock, Game Of Thrones and Endeavour. Theo will play The Younger Brother. His recent theatre includes Prime Time at the Royal Court and Lord Of The Flies at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
The Earl Of Bridgewater will be played by Andrew Bridgmont. Andrew’s extensive stage credits include Democracy at the Old Vic, War Horse, and for Shakespeare’s Globe, The Maid’s Tragedy and The Winter’s Tale.
Philip Cumbus takes the role of Attendant Spirit. Philip has appeared in numerous Shakespeare’s Globe productions, including The Inn At Lydda, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Globe Mysteries and Love’s Labour’s Lost.
The Monstrous Routs will be played by Paul Bullion, Suzie Chard, Phil Snowden and Natasha Magigi. Paul Bullion’s recent theatre includes Everyman at the National Theatre and Spamalot! (West End and UK Tour). Suzie Chard’s recent theatre includes Stepping Out (UK Tour), No Sex Please, We’re British! and Oliver! Phil Bullion’s recent theatre includes RSC’s The Winter’s Tale and Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace. Natasha Magigi also plays Sabrina. Her previous work for Shakespeare’s Globe includes Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing. Other theatre includes Redefining Juliet at the Barbican and To Kill A Mockingbird at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Comus – A Masque In Honour Of Chastity is directed by Lucy Bailey, who returns to the Globe after memorable and acclaimed productions of Titus Andronicus (2006 and 2014), Timon Of Athens (2008) and Macbeth (2010). She will collaborate with award-winning writer Patrick Barlow. Patrick’s four-person The 39 Steps played in the West End’s Criterion theatre for eight years.
The show plays at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from Wednesday 26 October – Saturday 19 November. Tickets can be booked on the official Globe website.
