Sadie Frost is to return to the stage for a limited three-week run to take up, once again, the role of a Madonna-obsessed woman in Touched…Like A Virgin.
Zoe Lewis’s new play, which runs at the Soho theatre from 22 May to 9 June (press night 24 May), revisits the character of Lesley, a woman who, as a 14-year-old girl, felt betrayed when the pop star Madonna married and ditched her pointy bra in favour of twinsets and pearls.
The role was previously played by Frost in Touched…For The Very First Time at the Trafalgar Studios in 2009, a play in which Lesley narrates the earth-shattering moment of her younger years.
Directed by James Phillips, Touched…Like A Virgin revisits the character, two years on, when she finds herself stuck in a modern crisis; single, childless and wondering if she’s left it too late to settle down.
Lewis’s new musical production, which combines old and new material, promises pop classics, IVF and tears as it takes a funny and wry look at modern womanhood.
Before taking up the role of Lesley, Frost appeared on stage in Nicholas Hytner’s Mumbo Jumbo at the Royal Exchange Manchester and as Lady Anne in Richard III at the Riverside Studios. She is also well-known for her various film credits, which include Dracula, Shopping, An Ideal Husband and Love, Honour And Obey.
