The Scoop at More London once again brings free theatre to London this summer with productions of John Steinbeck's The Grapes Of Wrath and Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS. This is the fifth year in which the London Bridge venue, an open air amphitheatre, has presented a summer season of live performance for the capital's theatregoers to enjoy at absolutely no cost. The season runs between 2 August and 9 September.
Steinbeck's Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of a family that leaves its Oklahoma home behind in search of hope and prosperity in California is adapted for the stage by Tim Baker. The production is directed by Phil Willmott, with musical direction by Joe Fredericks, lighting by Hansjorg Schmidt and costume design by Annalise Harvey.
The same creative team is behind The Scoop's other production, Disney's The Jungle Book KIDS. National Theatre puppeteer Toby Olie joins them to bring to life the jungle world of Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and Shere Khan. The production is based on the 1967 animated film and features favourite songs including Bare Necessities and I Wan'na Be Like You.
The season is a collaboration between The Steam Industry and the National Youth Theatre, which supplies eight of the company's 16 actor musicians.
