Actor Laurence Fox is to return to the stage in March, when he leads the cast of black comedy Eigengrau at the Bush theatre. Fox is joined in the cast by Sinead Matthews, John Cummins and Alison O’Donnell.
Fox, who is best known for playing DS James Hathaway in Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis, was last seen on the London stage in 2007 when he starred opposite Kris Marshall and Billie Piper in Treats. The son of James Fox, he has also appeared in films including Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Becoming Jane and Gosford Park.
In Penelope Skinner’s Eigengrau, he plays one of four young professionals living in London and struggling to find meaningful connections or make any impact in a city where Gumtree and Facebook often feel like their closest friends.
Fox’s co-star Matthews is a regular in BBC sitcom Ideal and appeared in Mike Leigh’s films Vera Drake and Happy-Go-Lucky. Her last London stage outing came playing Cassandra in Women Of Troy at the National Theatre, while she has previously appeared in The Wild Duck, The Birthday Party and You Never Can Tell.
Eigengrau, which is directed by Polly Findlay, opens at the Bush theatre on 15 March, following the venue’s current hit The Whiskey Taster, which centres on synaesthete advertising wonder kid whose life is changed when he meets an old Scottish whiskey taster.
