Emma Rice is back in the West End this month to charm audiences and break hearts in equal measure. She launches her brand new theatre company, Wise Children, at The Old Vic, with a playful adaptation of the novel of the same name – and we got an exclusive first look at rehearsals.
And a familiar Rice-style bundle of joy looks well set to take the stage by storm, judging from our exclusive first look into rehearsals below. Take a look.
Wise Children is a big tangle of joy and heartbreak, as well as a celebration of family, forgiveness, show business and hope.
Set in Brixton, Wise Children follows Nora and Dora Chance – twin chorus girls, born and bred south of the Thames, and celebrating their 75th birthday. Meanwhile, over the river in Chelsea, their father Melchior Hazard – the greatest actor of his generation – turns 100. And so does his twin brother Peregrine – if he’s alive, that is. In fact, is Melchior their real father after all?
The show begins performances on 8 October.
