It’s a tough job following an Olivier Award-winning performance, but Cassidy Janson looks like she’s stepped into Katie Brayben’s Beautiful shoes without too much of a (Lo)comotion.
Former Wicked star Janson took to the Aldwych Theatre stage as Beautiful – The Carole King Musical’s titular lead for the first time at the end of November, and the first images of the actress taking on the role of the iconic singer/songwriter have just been released.
Eagle-eyed Beautiful fans may also spot the first images of Doctors and Rings On Their Fingers star Diane Keen, who has replaced Glynis Barber as King’s mother.
Last year’s other Beautiful Olivier Award winner Lorna Want has continued in the production as Cynthia Weil, along with Alan Morrissey as Gerry Goffin and Ian McIntosh as Barry Mann.
The acclaimed musical hit, which was a huge success on Broadway before making its award-winning leap to London, follows the story of King, charting her rise from schoolgirl to superstar. It takes in her relationship with husband and songwriting partner Goffin, her friendly rivalry with Mann and Weil, and features a host of incredible hits including Take Good Care Of My Baby, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up On The Roof, You’ve Got A Friend and I Feel The Earth Move.
