The first shots of Jamie Parker as Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’s titular hero have been released, revealing who has been cast as his all-important family in the hugely anticipated play.
Line Of Duty’s Poppy Miller will take on the role of one of Harry Potter fans’ favourite heroines, Potter’s wife Ginny Potter (née Weasley), while Sam Clemmett has been cast as the pair’s son Albus.
Eagle eyed Potter enthusiasts will no doubt be thrilled to see Potter has not outgrown his trademark round spectacles and is proudly displaying his iconic scar, while Albus looks set to follow in his parents’ school adventures, decked out in full wizard scholar uniform.
The photos are the first of three sets of images taken by photographer Charlie Gray due to be published in the coming weeks before the theatrical event of the year begins previews on 7 June.
Split into two parts, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child has been penned by the combined creative geniuses J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, and picks up the famous stories years later, with Potter now an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic and a father to three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.
The eighth story of Rowling’s globe-conquering series, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is the first time the magical hero will ever be seen on stage and, predictably, theatre fans have been snapping up tickets since it was announced last year.
While tickets may be scarce, every Friday at 13:00 fans can enter The Friday Forty to be in with the chance of purchasing up to two tickets to catch both Part 1 and 2 the following week. You can find full details on the official show website.
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is currently booking at the Palace Theatre to 25 May 2017.
