The Royal Shakespeare Company is offering children and their parents the chance to explore the creative process of its production of Twelfth Night, currently playing at the Duke of York’s theatre, through two special events.
Shakespeare Unwrapped, on Saturday 6 February at 11:00, is an hour-long event for young people over 12 in which members of Twelfth Night’s acting company and creative team will demonstrate some of the skills that go into creating a production. As well as learning about the creative process of a theatrical production, participants get the chance to see inside the rehearsal room.
Younger children aged over seven and their parents are catered for with the RSC’s Family Day, held on Saturday 20 February at 11:00, which aims to give young people attending a performance of Twelfth Night a better understanding of the story and the production process. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a comedy of love, revenge and mistaken identity which is set in motion by the arrival of Viola on the shores of Illyria after surviving a shipwreck. Unbeknownst to Viola, her brother Sebastian has also been washed up in Illyria.
Gregory Doran’s production, which finishes its run at the Duke of York’s theatre on 27 February, stars Richard Wilson as the pompous Malvolio, with James Fleet and Richard McCabe as comedy duo Sir Andrew Aguecheek and Sir Toby Belch. Family tickets are available.
