Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage is pledging its support to local charity Help A London Child by staging a gala performance of the hit musical on Valentine’s Day.
The London stage production, based on the iconic film, will donate £40,000 from ticket sales to the charity which has been run by London radio station 95.8 Capital FM since 1975.
The gala performance, which takes place at 19:30 on 14 February, will be hosted by Capital DJ Greg James and showbiz reporter Sam Mann, while every theatregoer at that performance will receive a special Dirty Dancing goodie bag.
Speaking about the gala performance, Burns said: “We’re both honoured to be hosting such a special performance of Dirty Dancing in aid of Help A London Child. It’s the perfect show to see on Valentine’s Day and it’s one that the men can enjoy too, whilst donating funds for a great cause.”
A spokesperson for Jacobsen Entertainment, producers of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, added: “We are delighted to be supporting Help A London Child with our annual Valentine’s Gala – an extremely worthwhile cause which is doing so much work for young people in the capital.”
Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, which tells the coming-of-age love story between doctor’s daughter Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and headstrong dance teacher from the wrong side of the tracks Johnny Castle, opened at the Aldwych theatre in October 2006. Since then, over one million theatregoers have enjoyed the production, which is now booking until March 2010.
