Fans of Victorian literary powerhouse Charles Dickens will have to be quick to catch the comic adaptation of his life and works, as Dickens Unplugged has announced it will close on 29 June.
A statement released earlier today said: “The producers wish to thank the talented cast, creative team and company for all their hard work and dedication to this production. Despite fantastic performances and enthusiastic audiences, the ticket sales have not been sufficient and the producers have had to make the difficult decision to close the show.”
Dickens Unplugged, which opened just last week, is written and directed by Adam Long, who previously worked his condensing magic as part of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. In Dickens Unplugged, he has shrunk the author’s many great works – including A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations – into bite-sized musical sketches and interspersed them with a comic retelling of Dickens’s biography.
The production, which is staged at the Comedy theatre, was booking until 22 September.
