The Royal Court has announced additional casting for its autumn productions. Charlotte Riley and Alistair Mackenzie join The Priory, with Andrew Scott appearing in Cock.
Riley, who was recently seen playing Catherine Earnshaw in the ITV adaptation of Wuthering Heights, joins the previously announced Jessica Hynes and Rachael Stirling in Michael Wynne’s new comedy alongside Mackenzie, who played Scottish laird Archie in five series of BBC Sunday evening drama Monarch Of The Glen.
The Priory, which runs in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from 19 November until 9 January, is set on a New Year’s Eve gathering in a remote country retreat. But as the group of thirtysomethings come together in the countryside, the search for a good time leads to a fearsome party and some surprising resolutions.
Scott, who stars opposite Ben Whishaw in Mike Bartlett’s new drama Cock, has a wealth of previous experience at the Royal Court, where he has previously appeared in Dying City, A Girl In A Car With A Man, Playing The Victim, Crave and Dublin Carol.
Directed in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs by James Macdonald, and running from 13 November until 19 December, Cock is the story of John who, when he takes a break from his boyfriend, meets the girl of his dreams. Filled with guilt and indecision he decides there is only one way to straighten this out.
Before The Priory and Cock open at the famous new writing theatre, the Royal Court hosts the transfer of Lucy Prebble’s new piece Enron, which received rapturous reviews when it opened in Chicester, and stages Tim Crouch’s new show The Author.
