Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy’s forthcoming performances in David Hare’s acclaimed drama Skylight will be screened to cinemas across the UK in July as part of the National Theatre’s hugely successful screen initiative NT Live.
While the starry leads are no strangers to the big screen, The Great Gatsby star makes her West End debut in the passionate drama.
Anyone unable to make it to the high-profile production’s run from 18 June at the Wyndham’s Theatre can instead now attend a live streamed screening at cinemas across the UK on 17 July, with encore dates and international screenings also to be announced soon.
The Olivier Award-winning three-hander, which will also star Mulligan’s An Education co-star Matthew Beard, will see Nighy reprise the role of Tom Sergeant following his performance in the 1997 West End production.
Under the direction of Academy Award nominee Stephen Daldry, Mulligan will play Kyra Hollis, a schoolteacher and former lover of the charismatic Tom. When Tom turns up at Kyra’s door one cold winter’s night, an evening trying to rekindle their flame turns into a dangerous battle of opposing ideologies and mutual desires.
Other dates coming up in the NT Live’s busy calendar include Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy hit A Small Family Business starring Nigel Lindsay on 12 June and the Helen McCrory-led Medea on 4 September. For full information and to book tickets visit the NT Live website.
