Dates and venue have been confirmed for Ian Rickson’s forthcoming production of The Children’s Hour, starring Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss. The duo’s performances will be seen at the Comedy theatre from 22 January to 2 April (press night 9 February).
British movie star Knightley and Mad Men’s Moss are to play two women running a girls’ boarding school in 1930s New England, where they become entangled in a devastating story of deceit, shame and courage.
Lillian Hellman’s play premiered on Broadway in 1934 but was banned in several cities across America. It was last seen in London in 1994 at the National Theatre.
Knightley, the star of films including Atonement, The Pirates Of The Caribbean and Never Let Me Go, made her West End debut last year in The Misanthrope, also at the Comedy theatre, while American actress Moss, known for her role as Peggy in television drama Mad Men, makes her London stage debut with this production. She has previously been seen on Broadway.
Currently playing at the Comedy theatre is Trevor Nunn’s stage production of Sebastian Faulks’s novel Birdsong, adapted by Rachel Wagstaff, which ends its run on 15 January.
