Chicago, the long-running American musical that closed at the Cambridge theatre last month, is to transfer to the Garrick theatre later this year.
The fishnet-wearing satire on fame and celebrity will re-open on 7 November.
The show, which follows the life and careers of murderous showgirls Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, first opened at London’s Adelphi theatre in 1997, going on to win the 1998 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production.
It transferred to the Cambridge theatre in 2006, where it played to more than two million people in five years.
Speaking about the production, producer Barry Weissler said: “Last week, and in spite of nature’s attempts to spoil the party, we were delighted to see Chicago become the longest running American musical of all time, finally beating A Chorus Line’s record set way back in 1990. And this week it brings me huge pleasure and personal pride to be able to announce that London’s longest running revival will, thanks to Nica Burns and Nimax Theatres, return to the West End at the Garrick theatre.”
Over the years, Chicago has become famous for its casting, with stars including David Hasselhoff, Jerry Springer, Christie Brinkley, Kelly Osborne, Denise Van Outen and Michelle Williams all joining the production. Casting for the transfer is yet to be announced.
