It’s one of the must-see London shows this autumn – and now full casting has been confirmed for the upcoming revival of Sam Shepard’s True West, starring Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn.
In the tale of two warring brothers, Madeleine Potter (An Ideal Husband, West End & Broadway) will play their mother, and Donald Sage Mackay (Angry Alan, Soho Theatre) will play Hollywood producer Saul Kimmer. Game Of Thrones star Harington and Flynn, who received rave reviews for Hangmen on Broadway, will play brothers Austin and Lee respectively.
This production of True West is the first in the UK of Shepard’s work since his death last summer. It contains two highly sought-after roles in the brothers, who have been played by multiple household names – including Antony Sher, Bob Hoskins and Mark Rylance – since the play’s 1980 debut.
True West pits brother against brother as they vie for the attentions – and funding – of producer Saul Kimmer. Set against the heat of the Californian desert, their competition will tear the family apart, exposing the cracks in the American dream.
Olivier Award-nominated Matthew Dunster directs, with Jon Bausor on Set and Costume Design, Joshua Carr on Lighting Design and Ian Dickinson on Sound Design. As well as playing the role of Lee, Flynn will also compose original music for the production.
True West begins previews at the Vaudeville Theatre on Friday 23 November.
