Every year, the summer season at the Shakespeare’s Globe always evokes a sense of excitement and anticipation. And the 2018 season is set to quench that theatrical thirst thanks to a schedule of outstanding productions. In addition to Michelle Terry’s gender- and race-blind productions, Hamlet and As You Like It, Barrie Rutter’s The Two Noble Kinsmen cast has been announced.

In the play written by John Fletcher and William Shakespeare, Olivier Award-winner and Kinky Boots star Matt Henry will play Pirithous. Joining Matt will be Paul Stocker who will play Palamon. Paul is making his return to The Globe after appearing as Troilus in Troilus and Cressida in 2009.

Bryan Dick (Public Enemy) also join the cast as Arcite, along with  Jude Akuwudike (The Cherry Orchard) as Theseus, Moyo Akandé (Only The Brave) as Hippolyta, Sue Devaney (A Christmas Carol) will play First Queen, and Francesca Mills (A Tale Of Two Cities) will play Jailer’s Daughter. Making her first appearance at The Globe after appearing as Helena in All’s Well That Ends Well earlier this year, Ellora Torchia will play the role of Emilia.

The Two Noble Kinsmen asks the question ‘how long is forever?’ when the imprisoned Palamon and Arcite vow eternal friendship, expecting nothing will come between them. But upon seeing the beautiful Emilia for their cell window, their priorities suddenly turn.

The Two Noble Kinsmen is Barrie’s first production since stepping down as Artistic Director of Northern Broadsides. Acclaimed folk musician Eliza Carthy has created an original music for the score, and dance choreographed by Ewan Wardrop.

The Two Noble Kinsmen runs at Shakespeare’s Globe from 25 May – 30 June 2018.
