Fiona Button, Pippa Nixon and Stella Gonet will join the cast of Classic Spring’s forthcoming The Importance Of Being Earnest.
Button, who recently starred as Rose Defoe in hit BBC drama The Split, as well as in dramas Outcasts and Lip Service, will play romantic interest Cecily Cardew, opposite Pippa Nixon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King John and As You Like It, all RSC) as Gwendolyn Fairfax. Nixon takes over the part from Sinead Matthews, who has unfortunately had to step down from the company due to an unavoidable scheduling clash.
They are joined by Stella, who will play the forgetful Miss Prism. Stella’s recent West End credits include portraying Margaret Thatcher in Moira Buffini’s sell-out hit Handbagged at the Hampstead Theatre and in the West End, and her other stage credits include Ophelia opposite Daniel Day Lewis’ Hamlet at the National Theatre.
These three extraordinary actresses join Sophie Thompson as Lady Bracknell and Jeremy Swift as Reverend Chasuble, as previously announced.
The Importance Of Being Earnest – Oscar Wilde’s best-known comedy – is the last in a year-long series of productions at the Vaudeville Theatre celebrating the brilliant and radical wit of the virtuoso artist.
The farce sees Jack, Algy, Gwendolyn and Cecily muddle identities and discover how unsmooth runs the course of true love, while Lady Bracknell keeps a baleful eye on the mayhem of manners. Performances begin 20 July.
