Stephen Campbell Moore will join the previously announced Anne-Marie Duff in Alan Hollinghurst’s new version of Berenice at the Donmar Warehouse this autumn.
Last seen on the London stage in Clybourne Park at the Royal Court and later at the Wyndham’s theatre, Campbell Moore has also starred in All My Sons at the Apollo theatre and The History Boys at the National Theatre and on Broadway.
He will be joined in Artistic Director Josie Rourke’s production by Dominic Rowan, who recently starred alongside Hattie Morahan in A Doll’s House at the Young Vic and also appeared in Penelope Skinner’s Olivier Award-nominated play The Village Bike at the Royal Court.
Campbell Moore and Rowan will play the monarchic duo Titus and Anthiochus alongside Duff’s Berenice in Jean Racine’s tale about the Emperor of Rome’s lover who, following the death of Titus’ father, can finally be made Queen. But while Titus must decide between his love of Berenice and his responsibility as a ruler, Anthiochus reveals his own love for the potential Queen.
Completing the cast are Nigel Cooke (The Man Who Had All The Luck, Pericles, The Winter’s Tale), Kurt Egyiawan (Henry V, Earthquakes In London), Derek Howard (An Ideal Husband, The History Boys) and Rosie Jones (Design For Living).
Hollinghurst’s new version of the 17th century tragedy will play at the Donmar Warehouse from 27 September following Lyndsey Turner’s production of Brian Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come!, which ends its run on 22 September.
