The Bush Theatre has today announced additions to its autumn/winter 2018 season, a bold line-up of plays and events.
The announcement sees Artistic Director Madani Younis affirming their commitment to discover, nurture and produce the best new playwrights from the widest range of backgrounds.
The season opens at the end of the month with Dismantle: A Festival About Power (24 July – 4 August), which explores how we dismantle existing power structures, both in theatre and the wider world – and what should we build in their place. This programme includes a zine-making workshop, a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, an interactive protest workshop, a house party at the theatre, a workshop for young activists, and an escape-the-room interactive experience, Dismantle This Room.
This is followed by Vinay Patel’s An Adventure (6 September – 20 October), the playwright’s biggest and boldest play yet. A drama of unprecedented scope and heart, spanning seven decades and three continents, An Adventure is inspired by the experiences of his immigrant grandparents.
An Adventure at Bush Theatre
Next up is All We Ever Wanted Was Everything (31 October – 24 November). Set across three decades, from 1997’s Cool Britannia to today’s Brexit Britain, the show is multi-award winning gig theatre that mixes original live music from James Frewer with bold new writing by Luke Barnes.
Over Christmas, there’s LANDS by Antler (13 November – 8 December), an absurd tragicomedy about a collapsing relationship; a one-man musical comedy, DRIP, from 3 – 22 December; and Mike Kenny’s unique adaptation of Snow Queen (3 – 8 December).
Also announced is Going Through (28 March – 27 April), a poetic and touching story of one girl’s journey through adolescence by writer and director Estelle Savasta. Savasta runs Hippolyte a mal au cœur’, a company creating ground-breaking bilingual work based in France, and the Bush Theatre run marks Going Through’s English language premiere.
Younis summarised the season: “I’m proud that we can shake up cultural offerings whilst still maintaining a great night out for our punters. Expect to be challenged this season at the Bush, but also to be moved, to feel, to laugh and to cry.”
