Shortly after celebrating its first anniversary in the West End, hit new musical The Bodyguard has extended its booking period to summer 2014, making an additional 300,000 tickets available for fans of the Olivier Award nominated show.
The hit production, which stars Beverley Knight as international superstar Rachel Marron and Tristan Gemmill as the secret service agent-turned-bodyguard hired to protect her from an unknown stalker, opened at the Adelphi theatre in November last year, winning the hearts of audiences with its back catalogue of unforgettable Whitney Houston hits.
Directed by Thea Sharrock, the cast also includes Debbie Kurup as Rachel’s overshadowed sister Nicki and Michael Rouse as her over-zealous fan-turned-stalker.
When The Bodyguard opened back in December 2012, the show was described by The Independent’s Paul Taylor as an “assured production [that] moves with a velvet fluency”, while The Telegraph’s Charles Spencer wrote: “Director Thea Sharrock has done a remarkable job. Her production, spectacularly and ingeniously designed by Tim Hatley, is far more enjoyable than the movie.”
Based on the Oscar nominated film starring Kevin Costner and Houston, the production features many of the late recording artist’s best-known hits, from Queen Of The Night and One Moment In Time to I Wanna Dance With Somebody and I Will Always Love You.
Today’s announcement marks the The Bodyguard’s second booking extension and will see audience members run to the Adelphi theatre for more of the production’s showstopping numbers until 30 August 2014.
