Frances Barber and Mark Bonnar will star in the next two productions in the Donmar Trafalgar season at Trafalgar Studio 2.

The season, which launched earlier this week with Lower Ninth, showcases the directorial talents of graduates of the Donmar Warehouse’s Resident Assistant Director scheme.

Róisín McBrinn will direct Donmar Warehouse regular Bonnar as Tim Tooney, the sole cast member of Alessandro Baricco’s drama Novecento, which plays from 28 October to 20 November.

Bonnar, whose character narrates this story of a great jazz musician, appeared in the Donmar West End production of Twelfth Night at the Wyndham’s theatre and in the musical Parade at the Donmar itself. His other work includes Dido Queen Of Carthage and Philistines at the National Theatre and appearances at the Bush theatre, Young Vic and Royal Court.

Acclaimed actress Barber will appear in the third and final play in the season, Jean Cocteau’s Les Parents Terribles, directed by Chris Rolls from 25 November to 18 December.

The actress, who was last seen in the Donmar West End production of Madame De Sade, has appeared on the London stage in the Royal Shakespeare Company productions of King Lear and The Seagull at the New London theatre, Antony And Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe, Aladdin at the Old Vic and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at the Gielgud theatre.

Barber is joined in the cast by previous Donmar faces Anthony Calf (The Hotel In Amsterdam) and Sylvestra Le Touzel (Donmar West End production of Ivanov), along with Elaine Cassidy and Tom Byam Shaw.

The plays follow Lower Ninth, which opened on Monday and plays to 23 October.
