Antipodean musical theatre star Trevor Ashley is to make his West End debut when he brings his Liza Minnelli cabaret LIZA (On An E) to the Vaudeville theatre in May.
Ashley will perform the show, which has previously wowed crowds in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, for one week in London, from 14 to 18 May.
LIZA (On An E), which promises to stay “just the right (or wrong) side of risqué”, features the iconic star of stage and screen, played by Ashley, dishing the dirt on her extraordinary life and performing her array of auditorium-swelling hits.
Commenting on the engagement, Ashley said: “I am so completely and utterly thrilled to be coming to make my debut in the West End. This show and its music are such a genuine thrill to perform and I can’t wait to tear up the Vaudeville, surely one of the most beautiful theatres in London. As Liza herself would say, ‘It’s gonna be TCHERRIFFFIC!'”
LIZA (On An E) fills a portion of the space created by the early closure of Great Expectations, which came to a premature end in London last month. It will be followed in June by the London return of the Olivier Award-nominated stage adaptation of The Ladykillers.
