The upcoming revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects Of Love, which will be directed by Trevor Nunn at the Menier Chocolate Factory, will feature a cast led by Michael Arden and Katherine Kingsley.
The pair play lovers Alex Dillingham and Rose Vibert – roles that were taken by Michael Ball and Ann Crumb for the show’s West End premiere in 1989 – in a love story that spans 20 years and three generations.
Based on David Garnett’s novel, Aspects Of Love follows student Alex who, while travelling through France, falls in love with alluring actress Rose. The lovers embark on a passionate affair, but the arrival of Alex’s uncle changes their lives forever.
American actor Arden makes his London stage debut in Aspects Of Love, having already starred on Broadway in Big River and The Times They Are A-Changing. His extensive off-Broadway credits include As You Like It, The Winter’s Tale and The Secret Garden, while his screen appearances include hit American series Bones, Numbers and Grey’s Anatomy.
Kingsley is currently touring the UK in the hugely successful comic adaptation of The 39 Steps. In 2009 she received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination following her performance in the Donmar Warehouse production of Piaf.
Aspects Of Love marks Nunn’s first return to the Menier Chocolate Factory since his successful revival of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, which transferred to both the West End and Broadway. The former Artistic Director of both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, Nunn’s directing credits range from the original production of Aspects Of Love to Tom Stoppard’s Rock ‘N’ Roll, and from the West End’s longest running musical Les Misérables to the recent Old Vic production of courtroom drama Inherit The Wind.
Aspects Of Love opens at the intimate London Bridge venue on 14 July, following new musical Paradise Found, which begins its run later this week.
