Johan Reuter makes his debut with the Royal Opera playing Wozzeck, a man experimented on, taunted and ultimately driven to violent outburst. Fellow debutant Susan Bullock plays the wife of Wozzeck’s illegitimate child, who is seduced by the Drum Major, prompting guilt from her and jealousy from Wozzeck.

Alban Berg’s opera is based on Georg Buchner’s play. Keith Warner’s production won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production when it was first seen in 2002/3.
