Woman In Mind is the story of a clergyman’s wife, Susan, who, bored, restless and frustrated with life in general and her family in particular, escapes to a happier, more exciting dream world of her own imagining. But when Susan’s two worlds start to overlap and finally collide, danger threatens.

Following a sell-out run at his Stephen Joseph theatre, Ayckbourn’s revival of Woman In Mind transfers to London’s Vaudeville theatre. The bittersweet 1985 comedy hit reunites the writer/director with two-time Laurence Olivier and Evening Standard Award winner Janie Dee. They last worked together on Ayckbourn’s award-winning Comic Potential in 2000 at the Lyric theatre.

Dee, who leads the cast of Woman In Mind, collected a whole host of awards for her performance in Comic Potential, including the Laurence Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Awards. Among her other credits are Shadowlands, Donkeys’ Years, Carousel, My One And Only, Mack And Mabel and Betrayal. Most recently she appeared opposite Clive Rowe in the Open Air Theatre’s production of Twelfth Night.  

Ayckbourn is one of Britain’s most prolific and performed playwrights, with 72 full length plays to his name. In addition to Woman In Mind, his other plays include Relatively Speaking, Bedroom Farce, A Chorus Of Disapproval, Absurd Person Singular and The Norman Conquests trilogy – Table Manners, Living Together and Round And Round The Garden – recently revived to much acclaim at the Old Vic.
