Bern Ballett, directed by Cathy Marston (ex-Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House), is known for its technical prowess, stylistic versatility and physical storytelling. Following acclaimed productions of Ghosts for ROH2, as well as Wuthering Heights and Clara elsewhere, the company returns to the Linbury Studio Theatre with Marston’s latest full-evening work.
The inspiration for Witch-Hunt is the true story of Anna Göldi, a servant brutally tortured and executed in Switzerland in 1782 for attempted murder, amid allegations of witchcraft. Witch-hunt is set to a collage of Baroque music and uses multi-layered choreography and text to investigate themes of guilt, innocence and the excavation of memories.
