Lisa Kron’s autobiographical play Well is about the relationship between Kron and her mother.
Lisa is a New York performance artist who used to be very ill. Her mother is a middle American housewife who healed her racially divided neighbourhood, but just can’t get well herself. Lisa’s trying to tell us about it, but it turns out that putting your attention-averse mother onstage with you is a really bad idea.
Writing her mother into her play seems to be going a step too far, and soon the stage is set for a riveting mother-daughter showdown, as Lisa’s well planned show collapses into an explosion of riotous comedy and heartbreaking home truths.
Academy Award nominated Sarah Miles (Ryan’s Daughter) stars with Natalie Casey (Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps) and Oliver Chris (The Office and Green Wing). After its premiere earlier this year at the Trafalgar Studios, Well is reprised at the Apollo theatre.
Well is directed by Eve Leigh (The Dybbuk at the King’s Head theatre) and designed by Helen Goddard (The Masque Of The Red Death).
