Wall is David Hare’s new investigation of the Israel/Palestine separation barrier, fed by multiple visits to the region since the playwright’s first trip while writing Via Dolorosa.

Written and performed by Hare, Wall is a study of the separation barrier which will one day stretch for a 486 miles, making it over four times as long as the Berlin Wall. It is described by the playwright as the “natural answer” to Berlin, Hare’s study of the German capital which he performs at the National Theatre in February and March.

Wall playwright Hare is one of Britain’s most respected dramatists, with plays including The Vertical Hour, My Zinc Bed, Gethsemane, Stuff Happens, The Permanent Way, Amy’s View and Via Dolorosa, which was directed by Wall director Stephen Daldry.

Daldry and Hare also combined on Oscar-winning films The Hours and The Reader.

Daldry was previously Artistic Director of the Royal Court, where he directed A Number, Far Away, Rat In The Skull and Body Talk. He also directed the film Billy Elliot and its stage adaptation Billy Elliot – The Musical.

Wall plays alongside Mark Ravenhill’s Over There in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.
