This ‘bill of mixed moods’ begins with Ashton’s La Valse, which is set to the music of Ravel and sees waltzing couples take to the stage. Alastair Marriott’s new piece, his first for the main stage, uses the music of American composer Ned Rorem.
MacMillan’s 1978 ballet My Brother My Sisters explores the relationship between a brother and his five female siblings, and is set to the music of Schoenberg. Choreographed just two years later, MacMillan’s Gloria evokes the tragedy of World War I to a Poulenc score.
