From Syria to Outer Space via Tottenham FC , 1940s Britain and an Indian detective agency our 2013 Under 11s showcase promises to entertain and enthral with its vibrant mix of classic comedy, heartfelt drama and plays that pack a political punch! All from the direct perspective and thrilling imagination of our youngest Soho Theatre writers.
Ethel: But I don’t want to be a witch, I never wanted to be a witch. I don’t even remember being witch-baptised. I just want a normal life.
Now in its 16th year, the Under 11s is a highlight of Soho Theatre’s education programme and for the third year running, they will be working with Jagriti Theatre, Bangalore.
The programme works with Year 6 classes in London primary schools and schools in Bangalore, developing playwriting skills through workshops, involving professional actors, encouraging children to value playwriting as challenging, stimulating and fun.
As part of the programme, participants are invited to write a short play of around 5 minutes and enter it into a competition. Each year we receive over 100 plays. Some of the best and most representative of are then professionally produced at Soho Theatre and at Jagriti Theatre to an audience of the participating students.
