Ballet Black collaborates with three bold and inventive choreographers at the Barbican Theatre to present an irresistible Triple Bill of narrative and abstract dance.
At the centrepiece, Christopher Hampson’s Storyville is the bittersweet fable of Nola, a farm girl who falls prey to unscrupulous characters and worldly desires in 1920s New Orleans, set to the haunting music of Kurt Weill.
Also in the programme to be performed here are two newly devised pieces, by Christopher Marney, fresh from McQueen, and a duet by Arthur Pita, who previously choreographed a hit version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Ballet Black’s eight-strong ensemble.
A company for international dancers of black and Asian descent, Ballet Black and British-Trinidadian Artistic Director Cassa Pancho have attracted a loyal following for their classically-based performances, reinvigorating ballet with a boundless energy and imaginative versatility as well as promoting original work.
Please note, this production is recommended for individuals ages 7 and older.
