Chekhov’s classic Three Sisters is stripped bare by the combination of theatre company Filter and director Sean Holmes. The youth, exuberance and creativity of Filter, combined with Holmes’s attention to detail, retains the heart of the play while shedding new light on it.
Three Sisters is Chekhov’s famous tale of a trio of provincial sisters who dream of leaving home and going to Moscow but watch that dream slip away as their brother’s wife takes control of the house.
Prior to Three Sisters, Holmes and Filter collaborated on an irreverent, fast-paced version of Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night and a ground-breaking production of Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle.
Since the company was founded in 2001, Filter has built a reputation for creating productions with a fusion of live and recorded music. Its work was last seen at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2007 when it staged Water at the venue.
Three Sisters is suitable for theatregoers aged 14 and older.
