Sarah DeLappe’s award-winning play, The Wolves, makes its European premiere at Theatre Royal Stratford East, telling a story of team spirit.
Set in an indoor football centre in middle America, The Wolves centres on a team of teenage girls warming up for a game. As they stretch, squat, lunge, and kick, the nine girls talk about everything that addles a teenager’s mind. From their dressing room, the group of warriors gossip about boys, the teachers and the new girl who’s just joined the team.
But despite the joking, wrestling, and political questions, disaster strikes and the team’s winning streak is under threat. Will they remain unbeaten in their high school football league?
The Wolves received multiple awards as well as being a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama during its 2016 off-Broadway run in New York.
This new production is directed by Ellen McDougall – the Artistic Director of Notting Hill’s The Gate Theatre. The cast includes Annabel Baldwin, Seraphina Beh, Nina Bowers, Lauren Grace, Francesca Henry, Kristin Hutchinson, Shalisha James-Davis, Hannah Jarrett-Scott, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers and Rosie Sheehy.
The Wolves plays a strictly limited run from 24 October to 17 November.
