The third of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse’s quartet of late Shakespeare plays, The Winter’s Tale mixes magic with motive in a divine, but ultimately human, tragedy.

An imaginative but troubling tale, The Winter’s Tale charts the journey of King Leontes, whose wife is found guilty for adultery and reported dead, engulfing him in furious jealousy of a former friend. After discovering her innocence, he becomes inconsolable with guilt and grief for his wife and new-born daughter, travelling amongst art, time and providence to seek, in his remorse, redemption.

Exquisitely balancing rawness of emotion with vivacious imagination in an intimate setting, The Winter’s Tale is an exploration of one King’s search for atonement.
