Based on Henry James’s novella of the same title, The Turn Of The Screw is a hauntingly atmospheric and ambiguously twisted tale of domestic abuse and corrupted innocence.

When it was first staged in 2007, David McVicar’s version of The Turn Of The Screw received two Laurence Olivier Award nominations, one in the category of Best New Opera, and one for McVicar for Outstanding Achievement in Opera. It also won a South Bank Show Award.

The adult 2007 cast of The Turn Of the Screw returns for this production, which is conducted by former ENO Music Director Sir Charles Mackerras, who conducts the piece on the London stage for the first time since 1956. Mackerras is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest interpreters of Britten, and worked closely with the composer in the 1950s, often sharing conducting duties of The Turn Of The Screw.
