Richard Jones directs Rory Kinnear in a new stage adaptation of Kafka’s great novel The Trial at the Young Vic.

Adapted by Nick Gill, The Trial follows the story of Josef K, a powerless victim of the system who, in his 30th year, lives a waking nightmare.

Visited at home by state agents on his birthday, accused of an unspecified crime, K is bewildered by spiralling layers of bureaucracy – and the more sinister motives that lurk beneath them.

Skyfall and Southcliffe star Kinnear makes his Young Vic debut as the pinioned protagonist. Kinnear was last seen on the London stage in Othello at the National Theatre, a role that earned him his second Olivier Award.

The production is directed by Jones, who picked up his third Olivier Award in April 2015 for his direction of English National Opera’s The Girl Of The Golden West, The Mastersingers Of Nuremberg and Rodelinda.
